Overflow Worship Conference

God has placed this vision on my heart.  And I am so excited to finally see it come to be.  I’m so excited to announce the first ever “Overflow Worship Conference” to be held in Willmar, MN on July 25th and 26th 2014.

This conference was created to encourage and equip worship leaders and musicians from all over Minnesota.  We will worship together, grow as leaders and on our various instruments and develop community with one another.  I believe that God wants to do something new in His church, and this is an opportunity for us to come together, across denominations, worship together and develop a community of believers and worshippers from all over!

Please consider joining us, or sharing with someone who may want to come.

Visit http://www.owconference.com for all of the details, speakers and to register.  The cost for the whole weekend is only $32 until July 1st! After that, it is $38.

We have speakers and worship leaders coming in from all over the country.  Don’t miss this opportunity!

I’m so excited to see what God has in store!

Blessings to you!

In Him,

Andrea Olson

A Mommy’s Prayer

Hello friends!

I am so excited to share a new song with you! It’s called “A Mommy’s Prayer”. I wrote this song with my daughter in mind, but it’s for all of the Moms out there. My prayer is that everyone who hears it would be encouraged and know that they are not alone. We ask so many questions as parents, worrying about the future and about doing things the right way. And as I’m learning to be a better Mom, I realized that even though it’s hard sometimes, my daugther makes we want to be a better person…for her sake. I will make mistakes, but I will always keep trying, by God’s grace. This song is really my heart as a Mom, and I pray that it blessed your heart as you listen. After you listen, you can click here and download your own copy for free, as my gift to you, in honor of Mother’s Day!

Blessings to you!

#2 on My List of Favorite Things!!

I hope and pray that you are blessed by the information and wisdom shared on this blog.  I am so passionate about encouraging my fellow leaders in worship ministry.  So, take the resources, information and encouragement, and use it…share it!

Today, I want to talk about Planning Center.  Those of you who do not use it…maybe you have a planning tool that you like…that’s great!  But, if you’re looking for something…I wanted to share why I have enjoyed using it so much.

I am a planner.  I am an organizer and list-maker.  So, planning center is kind of like a happy place for me.

However, it’s very user friendly for those who are not planners, too! This website makes it easy!

If you haven’t heard of planning center, it is a planning tool for churches to use when planning services, music, schedules, etc.  Click Here to visit their website and get a quick overview

Here’s what I love:

  • Each member of your worship team can have their own individual login and choose their preferred method of communication (email or Facebook).
  • Each member of your worship team can go into the master calendar and “block off” the dates they are unavailable to serve on worship team.
  • As the worship leader, you can insert your set list and attach various media to help team members learn the music (charts, mp3’s, youtube, SongSelect, etc)
  • They just created “family scheduling” which is wonderful! You can create households for your users.  You can also set preferences, where users can request to be scheduled with anyone in their family or just specific members.

I have only touched on the musical planning end of this website, but there is so much more!  Visit their website and learn more about what they offer!

We really like their iPad app, “Music Stand”, which integrates with your planning center account and syncs all of your set lists, etc.

For anyone wondering…I’m actually NOT paid by this company to say wonderful things about their product.  I just really like it, and wanted to share!  If this information helps you, that’s great!

What resources have you found and loved as a worship leader? I would love to hear from you!  Use the contact form below!

Blessings to you!

Has God forgotten His Promises to Me?

Psalm 150

“Praise the Lord!  Praise God in His sanctuary; Praise Him in His mighty firmament!  Praise Him for His mighty acts; Praise Him according to His excellent greatness!

Praise Him with the sound of the trumpet; Praise Him with the lute and harp! Praise Him with the trimbrel and dance; Praise Him with stringed instruments and flutes!  Praise Him with loud cymbals; Praise Him with clashing cymbals!

Let everything that has breath praise the Lord.

Praise the Lord!”

What does it mean to live your life focused on Truth…based on what you know is true about God?  It is so easy to lose sight of who God really is when life is full of challenges and trials.  I love reading the Psalms because David did such an incredible job of praising through his pain. It paints a picture of how we should live.  Even when his enemies were closing in on every side and things looked hopeless, he cried out to God and thanked Him for being Almighty, Awesome God. (See Psalm 71)

When you find yourself in that place of brokenness, sorrow or questioning God’s plan, try listing all of the things that you know are true about God.   Because proclaiming His truth dispels the lies of the enemy…the lies that God has forgotten His promises.

My list looks something like this:

God, I know that You are faithful. You are true.  You created me.  You give life.  You are healer.  You are my constant companion.  You are Alpha and Omega, Beginning and the End. You are my peace. I know I can trust You.  You love me. And You have a plan. You will never forget Your promises to me.

This exercise is important because in the midst of difficulties, its easy to forget who God is.  But, remember this important truth:  Our circumstances change.  God does not.  Even when life is spinning out of control, God is still God.  He is still good.  And He is still worthy to be praised.

I want to encourage you today, that even when everything around you changes, or maybe completely falls apart, God is still the same.  He hasn’t left you.  If you feel like life has left you with nothing to be grateful for, praise God for who He is in your life.  Because that won’t change.

I know that being in the ministry, whether a worship leader, pastor or mentor…it is hard.  Very hard.  But, keep your focus on the Truth.  Take every thought captive (2 Corinthians 10:5), and focus on what you know is true about the Lord.  That will help you, when you walk through trials and difficulties, to see more clearly, and keep your eyes focused on Him.

If you are struggling to hold onto God’s promises today, or if you feel like He is silent…write your list.  What do you KNOW to be true about God?  Who is He?  Praise Him for that.

Last year, I co-wrote and recorded a song called “Speak Your Name” that talks about the power that comes when we speak His Name and proclaim His Truth.  You can take a listen right here.  I pray it blesses you.

The last verse of Psalm 150 says “Let everything that has breath sing praises to the Lord!”

Even when it’s hard.  Even when you feel like He is silent.

Praise Him.

Praying for you…

I don’t want to walk alone…do you?

For all of my friends in ministry…this is for you.

Do you feel like you’re walking alone?  You have the Lord, always, but do you have someone to walk alongside of you in ministry on earth…to encourage you…challenge you…and pray for you?  Someone who has been there, and really knows what you are walking through.

Do you need a little soul care?  I know I do.

I have been the worship leader at our home church for almost 10 years, and it has been wonderful and challenging all at the same time.  Sometimes I just wish that someone else knew what I was walking through, and could come alongside and encourage me and sometimes, challenge me to press on.

God has given me a passion for people in ministry, and more specifically worship ministry.  So, I’m stepping out in faith, and sharing my heart with you.  It’s a little scary, and I’m not even sure why, but I know What God has asked me to do.  And I won’t walk away from that.  I want to be faithful to Him, no matter what.

Even though I’m scared, I’m excited.  There’s an expectancy in my heart for what God is going to do, and I’m excited for what He is doing in His church and through His people.  But, we have to walk together, friends.  Build each other up. Share our experiences and resources so that we can “divide and conquer” and accomplish all the ministry that God has for us.  There is not one person who can do it all.  We have to walk together.

So, in the days and weeks that follow, I will be posting some devotionals and worship resources for you. To encourage you and uplift your heart. To help you along your worship ministry journey, and maybe challenge you to press on, even when it’s hard.

I hope that what God has taught me will be an encouragement to you.

You can find the links to these posts and resources on my Facebook page or visit me here directly at my blog.

I pray you are blessed!

In Him,

Andrea Olson

Are you wondering, “who in the world is this girl?”.  🙂 Head on over to my website, read the bio, and just look around.  You can hear my story and see what I have been up to.

I would love to hear from you, and get to know you, too!  Send me a message below!

You’re going to fail…So why bother?

It’s a word that used to taunt me…frustrate me…humiliate me and sometimes completely debilitate me.

Oh, it might have looked like I wasn’t afraid of anything…on the outside.  But on the inside?  Well, that’s another story.

You see, there is this lie that circles through my head that says, “Oh, Andrea, no one is going to care about that.  No one would benefit from the ministry you think you’re called to.  No one cares.”

” And…IT. WILL. FAIL.  So, why bother?”

This is the battle I fight everyday, and it is something that I used to give into.  Every time I pick up the phone to call someone about ministry.  Every time I go to share an exciting new idea with someone.  And every time I write a new song.  That little voice is there inside my head.  But, you know what?

I had to make a decision to quit giving into that fear.  And even though I have to lay that fear down everyday, I know that God is so much bigger than those lies that circle through my head.

If the Lord has called me to something…the outcome is not up to me.  I just have to be faithful…and DO IT.

So that when I lay down at night, I can say, “Lord, I did what You asked me to.”

That’s what He asks of us…to be faithful and answer when He calls.

What are you struggling with today?  Has fear paralyzed you?  You are not alone.  And be encouraged…there is hope!

If you find yourself crippled with fear and not sure where to turn, look at God’s word.

Deuteronomy 31:6 says, “Be strong and of good courage, do not fear nor be afraid of them; for the Lord your God, He is the One who goes with you. He will not leave you nor forsake you.”

God has a plan for your life.  And He has called you to something.  Let’s rise up, face our fear and live a life that fulfills the calling God has placed on each of us.  Because God is with us.  He’s not going to leave.  And His plans are good.

Jeremiah 29:11 says, “I’ll show up and take care of you as I promised and bring you back home. I know what I’m doing. I have it all planned out—plans to take care of you, not abandon you, plans to give you the future you hope for.” (From The Message translation)

I encourage you to trust Him today…with everything…even your fears.  Because with God, we have nothing to be afraid of.  Don’t let fear hold you back anymore.

There’s a call on your life.  Answer the call.

I love the lyrics from this song called “Monster” by The Prams (@wearetheprams).  Take a listen as you release your fears to the Lord today.

Be blessed today, friends.

In Him,

Andrea Olson

My Favorite Things…#3!

Alright, its time for #3 in my top 5 list of favorite resources!

Screen Shot 2012-12-09 at 7.03.44 AM

I know, I know.  Its a LITTLE geeky.  But, seriously. I love Dropbox!  It is an amazing resource for sharing files, Chord charts, pictures, anything you can think of!  The great thing is that its free to sign up. And while you can pay for space, if you’d like, you really don’t have to.  All you need to do is invite your friends and you get more space!  So, for me, I’ve invited most of my worship team and all of my private piano and voice students.  This makes it easy to share lesson plans, music, etc.

Dropbox was an amazing resource for me during the process of recording my latest worship project.  Because I don’t live in Nashville, I had to work remotely for some of the process.  Dropbox was an easy way for my producer and I to share large files and tracks.

I also share a lot of pictures with my Mom this way! 🙂

So, if you are looking for a way to share larger files, without having to email, check it out!

Click HERE to get started! (This is my referral link…once you sign up, you can refer friends, too and get free space!)

Stay tuned for #2 on my list soon!

Have a blessed week everyone!

Blessings to you all

#4 on my List of Favorite Things…

I wanted to share with you the next in line on my list of favorite Worship Resources.  #4 on my list?

New Release Tuesday

I love this website for many reasons.  As a music lover, its always exciting to find out when my favorite artists are releasing a new album.  New Release Tuesday is an excellent resource for that.  Tuesday is the big “day” of the week for album releases, so this website is designed as an “Announcement” page for new Christian releases.  You can also go to the Artist’s profile and read their bio, link to their website, and more.

Another reason that I love this website is because its an excellent opportunity to discover new artists!  As a Worship Leader, I am always looking for new songs to bring to people.  I love listening to the radio, but New Release Tuesday is a great way to discover songs that aren’t released on the radio.  There are so many talented artists and songwriters out there, and this website it a great resource for discovering them!

If you’re interested in free music (who isn’t?), you can head to their Facebook page.  If you give them a “like”, they will give you 3 free songs every Tuesday!  (Yay!) :).

Anyone else enjoy this website?  Or do you have any other resources that you love for discovering new music?

Be blessed everyone!

Worship Leader’s Resource! A Few of My Favorite Things…#5

In light of the Christmas season approaching, I will be posting “A Few of My Favorite Things” in regards to Worship Resources over the next several weeks.  I actually started this last year, so a couple of these will be a repost.  But, this is for all of the Worship Leaders out there!

Here we go…some of my favorite worship resources…Number 5 on my list?

If you are a worship leader, you are probably familiar with Praise Charts.  Its an incredible resource.  From chord charts to full orchestrations, if you haven’t checked it out, it might be worth your time (www.praisecharts.com).

As a worship leader who travels without a band, I frequently play with tracks.  But, the problem with an MP3 track, is that it can’t be changed.  Praise Charts started releasing Reason files for a lot of their popular songs, which solves all of those problems.  If you aren’t familiar with Reason, it is a software program by Propellerhead.  The description from their website reads:

Reason is an integrated music recording and production studio with unlimited audio tracks, million-dollar mixing, and a massive collection of sounds included. Reason comes with all the instruments, effects and mixing tools you need for writing, recording, remixing and producing great-sounding tracks.

It is an expensive program, yes, but it opens up SO many possibilities.  It is an incredible recording interface, which I won’t get into today.  There is a considerable learning curve, so if you want to use this program for recording purposes, it will take some time to learn.  Just a side note.

You can also use the program live, playing tracks directly from the stage.  You can use it to push sounds through your MIDI keyboard. Or you can just use it for editing the files you purchase from Praise Charts.

Once you find a song you’d like to purchase from Praise Charts, the process is very easy.  After purchase and download, simply open the file with Reason.  All of the files are MIDI, so you can transpose, mute unwanted instruments, change tempos, and more.  If you aren’t going to play the track live from Reason, you can re-export as a simple MP3 and use it in iTunes, for example.

You also have the file forever, which is great.  The files aren’t “cheap”, at $9.99 per track.  However, its worth it for me to have the flexibility with a track that I will use over and over again.

Has anyone else had experience with these Reason files?  Send me a post on my Facebook page!  I’d love to hear about it! (www.facebook.com/andreaolsonmusic)

Here are the links for Praise Charts and the Reason software, if you are interested:

Thanks for reading! Have a blessed rest of your week!

Until next time,

Andrea Olson

Precious Gift…

Life is such a precious gift.  I have been realizing that more and more lately.  My heart aches for so many hurting people in this world.  There are so many things that I don’t understand.  But, when I find myself in those moments of confusion and sadness, I cling to the One thing that I know is always true and will never change.  God is still God and He is still good.  And for me, that isn’t a lofty Sunday School answer. Its more real to me than anything else in this world.  And its the only thing that I can cling to, knowing it will never change.

I don’t have the answers for why terrible things happen. How can God still be good? I don’t know, but He is. He is the One constant we can cling to when life is throwing us all over the place.  With Him, we are safe.

Today I witnessed a car accident, which was a very difficult experience.  Thankfully, everyone walked away, which was incredible considering what I saw.  I was the first on the scene, so after calling 911 and checking on everyone, Sophia and I prayed in the car and watched the events unfold.  I am so grateful for our emergency response team. They did a fantastic job and were on the scene in minutes. But what moved me to tears was witnessing a family reunited after the accident.  In one of the cars involved in the accident, there was a woman with a small child.  As the EMT’s were taking care of them, I watched a 2nd car drive up, and a man bolt out of the door, with tears in his eyes.  As he ran towards the woman and child, I knew exactly who he was. The Daddy.

I cried as I watched them embrace.  I was so grateful for this family, who I don’t even know, that they were able to be reunited today.  As I drove away,  I was thinking…that’s how God is with us.  When we are in distress or tragedy, He is the Dad who rushes to hold us in His arms.  He is the first one to grab a hold of us and wrap us in His loving care.  He is our strength and our peace, and with Him we are perfectly safe.  I still don’t understand why bad things happen, but I do know this: God never leaves us. When challenges arise, its not because He is angry or has walked away. He is right there, holding us and guiding us through the storm.

I pray that you can let Him be your Father today.  That His peace would overwhelm you and guide you through whatever you are facing today.

Blessings to you all, dear friends.

In Him,

Andrea Olson
